Why do you study English?
With the fast development of our society and the frequencies of international communication and cooperation, having a good knowledge of English is a must in our daily life. But when asked why you study English, you have to think for a while carefully and then you will find some reasons as follows.
First, you must study English if you want to learn more about the world---even the small world around us, the city you are living in, for example. Walking in the busy street, you can see many shops, supermarkets, factories, companies named in both Chinese and English nearly everywhere, and some of the English words are so interesting that it's really hard for you not to remember them at the first sight. And when you see these words again, you will naturally know their meaning even without any Chinese characters. By and by, you will be able know much more about the world around you than others.
Second, learning English well can help you learn something advanced abroad quickly and directly. With a high English standard, you will be able to read foreign newspapers, magazines, books as well as many masterpieces. So you will posses much more information and learn much more of these materials than merely read their translated version--no matter how well they are translated, they will lose some of their pith.
Third, learning English well is a must during the schooling process in China. From primary school to junior middle school, from senior high school to college, you must learn English well to pass various examinations. If not, you will be badly influenced---maybe you will fail to enter a famous university.
As you can see from above, there are mainly there reasons to study English and learn it well.It will help to broaden your eyeshot, make you know more about the world and achieve some goals in your life.

First, English is one of the most widely used languages in the world. As the world business is going global, English is becoming more and more important to communicate with foreigners. For instance, a man from south Africa comes to China to start his own business. He may not know too much Chinese, but he can understand English.
Second, English is a basic requirement for all kinds of jobs in the future. One of my American friend who is going to teach English in China gave me an example. There is a job requires a person to fix computers. Person A and B both have excellent skills on doing that, but A has better English skills. Who do you think will get this job?
Last but not least, learning English is pretty fun. It helps you to learn a kind of culture and know how people do things on the other side of the world. We can often see some American jokes, that we do not understand before we study Enlgish. "Friends" one of the most popular TV show in the world has lots of jokes in that. When we watch the translated show, it is not as fun as the English one.

With time, you will be able know much more about the world around you than others, which will be an advantage when you grow up.

But, learning English also has some requirements. A good teacher and a good environment is definitely required in order to learn good English. Knowing terrible English and saying it in front of foreigners will be a bummer, as they will think of you as a show-off and a slob.
As you can see from above, there are mainly three reasons to study English and learn it well.It will help to broaden your view of the English and American world, make you know more about the world, and help you achieve some goals in your life.
