摘要：关于元朝征讨日本一事,史学界对于其失败的原因有很多的研究,但对这场军事冲突发生的深层原因,却鲜有学者考证.特别是元世祖在征讨日本之前,君臣讨论时,所表现出来的种种矛盾心理更是耐人寻味,本文从元朝前期国内各种势力的矛盾分析入手,通过考证元世祖的选将、选使等方面的情况,对这一问题深入研究,得出结论：征日的目的是为了考察异族军队和将领,是整合国家和军队的重要一步.
