mandarin是“行政推广的语言”的意思,就是“官话”意思的英语构词而已,跟满人无任何关系.同一词根,类似词汇还有,比如mandate：政府权力；命令,mandation：行政权力,mandary：官方的,行政的,mandatory：命令的,强迫的.
满人在英语里是manchu,早期是manzhu一词,完全不是manda-词根的.

即是说mandarin原来的意思是北方官话，也就是“满大人”说的话，后来就用它来代表普通话了。
